Reduction in Force

Like any company or organization, federal agencies may occasionally require a Reduction in Force (RIF), also known as a downsizing or layoff. However, the decision as to which jobs are eliminated is governed by a complex set of personnel practices to ensure that government employees are treated fairly. Like other bureaucratic rules however, they can sometimes be imposed in error or in an arbitrary fashion.

If you believe your job was eliminated unfairly, the lawyers at the Federal Employment Law and Litigation Center  have the experience and the desire to help.

Our first step is to investigate the situation — to uncover evidence that you have, been improperly terminated or scheduled for RIF. If we believe that your are being treated unfairly, we help you obtain the compensation you deserve.

This can include:

Reinstatement — including attorneys' fees, back pay and benefits, and other compensatory damages, such as save grade

Severance packages — ensuring that you get the most out of your separation

Being subject to a Reduction in Force can be emotionally draining and it can harm your future. It should not be financially draining as well. The Federal Employment Law and Litigation Center at Melville Johnson, P.C. has the knowledge and experience needed to protect the rights of Federal employees who have been unfairly let go. We understand the personnel rules that determine how and when a termination or employee reinstatement should take place.
